Early detection of autism is crucial, and certain red flags can help parents and caregivers identify potential concerns in a 2-year-old child. While every child develops differently, some common signs to watch for include:
- Delayed speech or no speech: A 2-year-old may have limited or no spoken words.
- Lack of eye contact: Difficulty making eye contact or engaging with others./
- Limited social interaction: Preferring to play alone and not showing interest in interacting with peers or adults.
- Repetitive behaviors: Engaging in repetitive movements, such as hand-flapping, rocking, or lining up objects.
- Unusual reactions to sensory input: Being overly sensitive to sounds, textures, or lights, or not responding to these stimuli at all.
It’s important to note that not all children who show these behaviors have autism. However, if you notice several of these signs, it’s helpful to consult with a healthcare professional or specialist to get a proper evaluation.
At Able Stars ABA, we offer early intervention services in Maryland to help children develop essential skills. Our ABA therapy programs are tailored to each child’s needs.
